Great Sound System on a Budget

A good sound system will cost you a lot of money if you want a really good sound. There are a lot of components to building a great sound system and of course, the main players are the speakers themselves. However, these speakers are not going to do much without the proper amplification and sources. Amplifiers and decoders are also very important in order to play good sounding music or watch a movie/play games in glorious surround sound.

You also have to factor the size of the room, if the speakers are mainly for music or movies, if you want surround or you are fine with stereo, a subwoofer and a lot more. Of course, the very first consideration should be your budget. You have to set a budget and stick with it because people that start with this hobby tend to spend too much for things that they don’t really need and end up overspending. If you have the money to spare, then by all means, get the best that you can afford but if you are like the rest of us that have limited budgets, then you should definitely try to avoid overspending and get the best value items.

The speakers are the heart and soul of your home theater. Without it, there won’t be any sound, obviously, and if you have low quality and bad sounding speakers, no matter what you do such as tweaking settings or speaker placements, it won’t get better. I recommend that you get the best model that you can afford. If you are planning on a multi speaker setup, you should start with getting the best front speakers that you can afford and then adjust your budget for the other speakers. If you are content with a stereo system, you should allocate most of your budget for the best speakers that you can afford.

Micca MB42x

The Micca MB42X is the best bang for the buck speaker in the market. It is very versatile and can be used as your front speakers, rear surrounds or side surrounds. It is very small with dimensions of 9.5 x 5.8 x 6.5 (inches). However, don’t let the small size put you off if you want big sounds. This speaker is more than capable of producing good quality sound with its 4 inch woofer and .75 inch silk dome tweeter.

The size of this speaker makes it easier for placement and as I said above, it can be used in the rear or sides if you ever decide to upgrade the front speakers to towers. I recommend this highly and I actually own a pair that I use as speaker computers although the model that I have is the powered ones. Fluance SX6

The Fluance SX6 is another great speaker set that I can recommend. The sound that comes out from these babies are great and full. It has a 1 inch tweeter and a 5 inch woofer and it is bigger than the Miccas with dimensions of 13.5 x 8.3 x 9.1 inches. The only thing I don’t like about these speakers is that they are quite ugly to look at but if you don’t care about looks, this is definitely a winner.

Wharfedale Diamond 220

Wharfedale is the brand of choice in Britain and it’s slowly gaining popularity in the US. These speakers are a bit warm sounding so if you prefer that, this is the one to get. It’s pretty close to the size of the Fluance with dimensions of 12.4 x 6.9 x 9.8 inches with a 1 inch tweeter and a 5.1 inch woofer. The speakers are fun to listen to without the risk of listening fatigue due to the warm and flat tone. I highly recommend these speakers if you have the budget to spend.

It is available in Black, Walnut, Rosewood, and White. Tip: Get the white ones, they are gorgeous.

Final Thoughts

Well, these are my recommendations for speakers on a budget. These speakers produce great sound for the money and they are very versatile, in case you want to upgrade later on. There are many more speakers in the market and it’s virtually impossible to determine the best one, at least for me, as I am no audiophile and I don’t have the money to spend on those speakers that cost thousands of dollars. For now, these are the ones that I can recommend to others on a budget.

Preparing for the Winter

The title sounds so dramatic but it really isn’t. This is just a simple guide and tips on how to prepare your home come winter time. Some winter decors and actually preparing your home to combat the cold. Without further ado, here they are.

  • Curtains

A great first step in preparing your house during winter seasons starts with your window curtains or drapes. A winter themed one will absolutely look fantastic while also serving an important function of warming the area. It will add an additional layer of barrier to counter the cold weather and guests as well as people passing by will appreciate the look if you opt to go for one with a winter themed style.

  • Rugs and Carpets

Rugs and carpets, much like the curtains, also do a double duty when it comes to function and design. It adds additional insulation, especially in areas of the house that are traffic heavy and with a good design, it can improve the overall look of your home.

  • Couch and Sofas

Adding a layer of cushion in your sofa will help in keeping it warm for you to be comfortable on. You can even go further and add sheets and bedding with winter themes on it to both improve the heating and the look of your sofas.

  • Sealing all drafts

This one is all about improving the heating of your entire home. You need to find all drafts in your house and seal them so that wind will not penetrate your house, causing it to lower the temperature even further. This might involve some work but in the end, it will be worth it because a warm house during winter is a necessity.

To seal the drafts, you need to employ either permanent solutions like caulking or weather stripping or temporary ones like towels or other thick fabrics to cover the sources. It’s up to you and if you have the budget, you should definitely opt for the permanent solutions so that you only do it this one time.

Tips for Redecorating your Home

I’ll start out this blog with some tips to help you redecorate your home.

A visually appealing and comfortable home is what everybody wants to go home to after a long day at work or even at school. Decorating your home so that the flaws are very well hidden if not completely eradicated and the strong points emphasized will take a lot of time and resources and not everybody has both. Here are some easy tips that I have found to be helpful, even on a tight budget.

Rearrange your sofa

A simple rearranging of your sofa can greatly improve the overall feel and look of your living room. If you have guests over frequently or even if it’s just you and your family sitting in the living room, a sofa arrangement wherein conversation is promoted will have a great effect on the feel of your home. Setting it in a U-shape formation or two sides facing each other can generate conversations more frequently. And healthy conversation with friends and family is always a good thing.

Don’t block the sun

Natural lighting will always be better than artificial. Having said that, if your house has an abundance of windows, take advantage of the sun. You can go for a contrasting look of heavy colored drapes but tied up or you can also go with a light colored theme that lets sunshine pass through.

You don’t have to pay someone to declutter your home, that’s ridiculous. This is very easy to do and you don’t have to spend a dime to do something that you can do yourself.

A mirror makes a room seem more spacious and bigger than it actually is

Having a mirror in every room makes it look more spacious strategically placing it opposite of windows will make the room brighter as it can bounce off the natural sunlight. It doesn’t have to be the biggest window or the most expensive one that you can find. Even the budget ones with minimalistic designs or even frameless ones will be very good in improving the look and feel of your home.

Light and neutral colors

For this one, you may have to spend a little more than usual but it is a one time thing and it will improve your home for the best. Repainting the interior of your home with light and neutral colors will make it seem more spacious and brighter, improving the flow and feel of your house. This is basically the same concept as having mirrors in every room, the goal is to improve the flow of the house and make it larger than it actually is.

Having light and neutral colors will also make it easier to decorate your house due to its flexibility with color combinations. you can buy dark or light colored furniture and you won’t have a problem with overall look and flow. is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to
